Getting there

Kawawia lake can be reached by driving 40 miles north of Fort Frances on Highway 502, then using a mile-long access trail that leads to the landing. It is a former logging road that is maintained by us (minimally, so as not to attract additional traffic)  This stretch will require a four wheel drive or ATV for clearance.  Another option is to simply use a parking area just off the highway and walk or mountain bike in. Boats, motors, gas and some incidentals are provided, so all you really need is clothes, food and any gear. At the landing your 16 foot aluminum boat with an 8 hp fourstroke will be waiting. The trip across the lake to the cabin takes about 5 minutes.

The cabin sits on a portage to another smaller lake named Strange. The portage is quite short, so you will be able to look out one window and see your dock on Kawawia, and look out another window and see Strange Lake. A 16 foot boat with an 8 hp motor will be docked on the Strange side.  A 14 foot boat with a 6 hp motor will be available at the cabin to split up your party or for portaging.  Down the shoreline on the Kawawia side is yet another stunningly beautiful lake named Mang that will be accessible with a short portage. All three lakes have great fishing.  Lake trout, walleye and northern pike are abundant.
